Cameron Jordan Calls NFL's 18-Game Schedule Proposition a 'Terrible Idea'

Cameron Jordan: “How would that even work? This is a terrible idea. As a competitor I never want to be off the field so you’re not going to tell me I’m going to be out of a game and not be with my teammates that I bleed, sweat, and win with. I guess Drew Brees would throw for 6,000 yards instead of 5,000 yards.”

Listen to All-Pro New Orleans Saints defensive end Cameron Jordan join The Rich Eisen Show to talk the NFL’s proposal to extend its regular season from 16 games to 18 games, as the league continues to brainstorm ways to further monetize the United States’ most lucrative sport.

Under the rumored proposition, the league would adopt an 18-game schedule when the league moves forward with a new collective bargaining agreement in 2021. Players would get to choose which 16 games they want to play in, and the 18 games would mean the preseason would be cut from 4 games down to 2.

The league went from 12 to 14 games in 1961, and from 14-16 in 1978, but the league’s idea has been met with nearly absolute derision, as the NFLPA has rejected the idea altogether.

Perhaps the most complicated issue is what to do with the quarterbacks, who would potentially be the only position who would play the full 18. The QB position obviously plays the most impactful role in television ratings.

Check out the audio below as Jordan says 18 games is a terrible idea.
