UPDATE:
--
An undisclosed number of young girls at a Texas Christian summer camp are reported missing after their cabins washed away during a "catastrophic" flood, two camp directors confirmed to the Austin American-Statesman.
The girls were reportedly unaccounted for at Camp Mystic, which is located alongside the Guadalupe River in the San Antonio suburb of Hunt, which was hit by up to 10 inches of rain. The all-girls sleep-away camp was evacuated overnight during the storms, however, some of the campers were reportedly left behind.
Several cabins were reportedly flood while others were washed away as surrounding roads were hit by a washout. Some of the missing children were reportedly located and stranded, however, officials didn't reveal plans to rescue them nor how many were unaccounted for as of Friday (July 4) afternoon.
Staffers sent an email to families informing them of the incident and confirmed that the camp had lost power, water and WiFi during the incident.
“If you have not been personally contacted, then your daughter is accounted for,” the email, which was obtained by KSAT, stated. “We are working with search and rescue currently. The highway has washed away so we are struggling to get more help.”
Camp Mystic said the missing children varied in ages between 7 and 17. At least six people were killed during what Texas Gov. Greg Abbott described as a "devastating flooding" across Hill County and the Concho Valley overnight.
