The NBA took another step toward hiring its first female head coach when the New York Knicks reached out to South Carolina Women’s Head Basketball Coach Dawn Staley about their open position. While the historical significance of becoming the first woman to be a head coach in the league cannot be overstated, Dan understands exactly why Staley declined to be considered for the job.
Dan Patrick: “(The Knicks) reached out to Dawn Staley, South Carolina Head Coach. I’m sure she was flattered by that, but if I’m Dawn Staley, I don’t take the Knicks job…If I’m Dawn Staley, as much as I’d love to be that ‘first,’ I don’t know if I want to deal with the NBA.”
